The Early Move Was the Right Fit for Windsor Run Resident

October 12, 2018

Matthews, North Carolina—Sometimes in life, you know when it's an immediate "no-brainer".

That's how Sandy Schneiderman described the experience when she visited Windsor Run, an Erickson Living retirement community, for the first time in June, 2017.

"After attending my grandson's graduation in Pennsylvania, I made a stop in Matthews to see what my son had discovered," recalled Sandy.  "We casually stopped by Windsor Run and spoke to Mindi Thinnes, a sales associate.  She invited us to stay for the luncheon and discussion that had been planned that day to learn about the community."

Upon learning of the future amenities and seeing floor plan options, Sandy was impressed.  She immediately joined the priority list and reserved the Cromwell, a large one-bedroom apartment home that fit her active lifestyle.  "I love the extra space for dining," she said.

Sandy's journey to Windsor Run is an east coast story.  Originally from New York City, she raised two sons with her husband, Allan, to whom she was married for 52 years.  During that time, she served as a public school teacher, and in the last 15 years of her career, specialized in a high school-level drop-out prevention program.

Upon retirement, Allan and Sandy moved to Sarasota and frequently visited their five grandchildren spread in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.  "Family connections are very important to me," noted Sandy.  "When Allan passed away, I missed those relationships in Florida.  Windsor Run was the perfect remedy for me."

On July 16, 2018, Sandy officially moved to the community.  And she's enjoying the new chapter in life.  "I am closer to my family and can be part of their lives.  For example, we joke that I am my granddaughter's 'Uber driver' as I pick her up for her job at our restaurant right here at Windsor Run."

Not having to worry about house maintenance is also a big advantage for Sandy, a feeling reinforced during Hurricane Florence in September.

"As a homeowner in New York and Florida, I've experienced five hurricanes in my lifetime.  They always bring major anxiety before and during the storm, but not at Windsor Run," said Sandy.  "There are no repair responsibilities at all here.  If you need anything, you just pick up the phone, and the staff is happy to help."

Her calendar is full, too.  "I've made good acquaintances and friends with my fellow residents.  Whether it's playing Mahjongg, serving on the dining committee or rooting for my beloved New York Yankees, I enjoy the camaraderie."

Additionally, Sandy always valued the importance of a healthy lifestyle.  "In Sarasota, I utilized the fitness center.  At Windsor Run, this continues and more.  I participate in wellness activities such as yoga, line-dancing and water aerobics."

Now as Sandy plans future travel, she looks back on the last fifteen months with a smile.  "I'm certainly glad to have jumped on the opportunity when I did."
